Collection Industry message boards.

Message boards that are run for and by debt collectors are nothing more than places where so called "professional debt collectors" hang out in order to spout off about various successes they have had in collecting debts or complain about consumers and why they don't just up and pay what they supposedly owe. They are nothing but a complete waste of time for consumer and debt collector alike. They present little or no useful information at all and in the event some consumer asks a reasonable question of them they get nothing back but a bunch of sass as is pointed out in the following post.

Yugi,

I can already tell you the response you will get from this board:

1. It is your debt, after all they did get your name right and what are the odds of TWO people with your name? Fat chance! You just found a clever way to welch on the debt. At a minimum you should have paid the debt, then found the right *debtor* (or someone with your name) and attempted to collect from him. Come on dude, CAs don't make mistakes and as pillars of society, they need the money more then you and I. $15k is probably just a large fraction of your yearly income, but to a collector that is a days work. Now a poor collector is going to have to spend another day finding a new victim.
2. You should not have sued, you should have been content to write letters to the CA and OC. That is how to get mistakes ironed out. I am sure that after a few years of writing letters the CA would have realized their mistake and refunded your money and vacated the judgement (because you should never fight a CA lawsuit, it costs them money) Suit is only a tool for collectors, not consumers. I am sure if you sent in paymets of $50-$75 they *probably* would not have sued you.
3. Only a few bad apple collectors are doing this, you must be lying because a mistake of this kind only happens in one out of thousands of people's lifetimes.
4. If you had any human decency, you would have donated the money to a local CA. Sick kids vs. greedy collectors, what were you thinking!?!?

The actual answer to all your questions is, they would make less money. Most people don't know and don't learn their rights when targeted by a CA, so for most CAs, to collect legally is more expensive then doing business as usual and paying for the suits they do get.

These collectors are great commedians. Ask them how even a single bad apple collector can even be allowed to target the wrong person, tag their credit, then verify the information to the CRAs without the knowledge and approval of management. They will be like Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix, they will move so fast you won't be able to watch them.

Just picked this up from another forum.
